Caring for the poor is an investment with God.
“He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord; and He will pay back what he has given.” Proverbs 19:17 NKJ
God associates himself with the poor by taking their plight personally. He promises to repay those who care about the marginalized and show kindness to the poor. Providing shelter to a homeless family, speaking words of comfort to the despondent elderly, educating a community on the use of an Eco-filter to provide clean water and lastly, but certainly not least, feeding a hungry child is a wise investment.
The Lord Himself will repay us, not necessarily with wealth and comfort, but with the honor of reflecting His character by the sacrifice we make on behalf of the poor.
Daily we encounter needs that exceed our current budget. Try to picture:
• having to explain to a distraught mother, who walked miles with a sick child to the clinic, why we can’t help her child with a needed treatment or surgery due to a lack of resources.
• Treating malnourished parasite infested children who have no choice but to drink contaminated water due to no resources to supply clean drinking water.
• Being able to feed 30 families only to turn away many more hungry mothers and children waiting in line due to running out.
